Biography Alan Minskhas extensive experience as a patent strategist, concentrating in the development and strategically focused management of patent portfolios. Mr. Minsk has experience with all phases of portfolio building and management, including identifying the strategic goals that support development of a patent program, determining the appropriate level of resources to support the program, strategically focused patent prosecution and portfolio development, and portfolio evaluation as part of due diligence for purposes of asset acquisition, sale, or licensing.
Mr. Minsk's practice focuses on protecting and exploiting innovations in the electronics, telecommunications, software, and eCommerce areas, among others. He has prosecuted patents in technical areas that include electro-optical devices, secure communications and encryption methods, image and signal processing systems and methods, semiconductor processing methods, flash memory systems, messaging systems, wireless communications systems, eCommerce business methods, adaptive control systems, and radar systems.
Prior to his present position, Mr. Minsk was Patent Counsel for Intellectual Ventures, a venture capital backed acquirer of patent portfolios. In that role he assisted in the identification of potential purchases, the evaluation of the those portfolios, and the management of acquired patent portfolios. Prior to working for Intellectual Ventures, Mr. Minsk was the Associate General Counsel and Patent Counsel for Openwave Systems, Inc., a publicly traded company, where he managed the patent department and developed the Company's domestic and foreign patent portfolios. In that role he was also responsible for managing patent litigation and for all patent issues that arose in the areas of product clearance, pre-litigation counseling, and mergers and acquisitions.
Prior to attending Harvard Law School, Mr. Minsk earned a Masters degree in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley and then worked as a radar system analyst and senior engineer at ESL, Inc., where he designed and implemented mathematical models of infrared and optical detection systems. He also developed software for satellite control and the implementation of mathematical algorithms.
